South Yarra, Melbourne
Merge House
This Victorian heritage home balances contemporary design references with elements of traditional Japanese design; authentic materiality, connection to nature, daily ritual and screening to reveal uninterrupted spatial flow and invoke a restorative calm to this South Yarra residence. The restrained palette and minimal detailing alongside the injection of textural tatami mat flooring, warm timbers and polished plaster establish a foundation for the client’s personality to be revealed. Accents are drawn from focal artwork, the subtle variation of neutral tones enlivened with a mixture of masculine, cool-coloured furnishing and pops of earthy warmth in object d’art.
