Toorak, Melbourne

Re-carved Home

PJL Residence

Focusing on its simplified form and paring back the adornments and trims, the house has been rejuvenated.  By doing so the building is elevated and the home allowed to find its place upon the great architecture of the area.  A restrained and neutral palette brings calm to what was once a heavy and crowded facade.  New windows and doors bring light and air through the home whilst expanding the connection to the garden and pool.  What was previously a barren terrace is now surrounded by raised balustrade and cascading planting, providing privacy from the busy street below.  The terrace, now an elevated garden, offers refuge and respite with uninterrupted views of Melbourne CBD.
