Umfra House
Set on a large block in the heart of North Brighton, Umfra House is an outstanding example of Federation era architecture. A classical front garden sets the scene for the array of original detailing throughout the home – from stained-glass windows to ornate archways and cornices. A previous extension adds to the functionality of the home, yet falls short of exploring a meaningful connection to the original home and landscape. As such, the new addition solves this by resetting its orientation to maximise north light and aspect, creating livable spaces that transition seamlessly with the outdoors. All while employing an architectural language that elegantly references the Federation features that make the home so unique.
